Our History

A family owned and managed business, DiLuigi Foods has been able to link age old recipes with bold innovation.

As a producer of high-quality meat products, we’re proud of the path we’ve taken to become the recognized leader that we are today. The DiLuigi Foods tradition began in 1950 inside a small East Boston storefront. There, Louis DiLuigi Sr. began and grew his enterprise by serving quality meats and offering the best service in town. From his store, Louis taught his son everything he knew about the business. After serving fresh cuts of meat and sausage for over 30 years, Lou Jr. took over the company and converted the butcher shop to a sausage production facility.

Innovation became Lou's driving force from the very beginning. He tapped into original, old-world family recipes to produce succulent, fresh sausages, and branded them with the DiLuigi name. He invented new and exciting flavors such as Cheese and Garlic, Chinese, and Teriyaki Pork Sausage, and rounded out his offerings with old favorites such as Traditional Sweet and Hot Italian. Lou also worked tirelessly on developing new entries like chicken and turkey sausages.

By 2000, DiLuigi Sausage was a household name that meant quality and innovation. You could find our meats across all major retailers in New England. Even after 3 additions to the facility in East Boston, the vision and passion of Lou Jr. outgrew the small shop where he began. Two years later, he opened a new, state-of-the-art facility in Danvers, MA.

The 3 original production lines have tripled to include 'Oven Ready' foods, marinates, whole muscle cuts, beef grinds, gourmet burgers, natural products, and organic products. In 2007, an expansion increased the plant size to 40,000 square feet.

It's an exciting time in the life of our business. DiLuigi Foods products can already be found in retailers and club stores throughout the Northeast—and we’re growing every day. Just take a bite, and you’ll know why.
